MeMa's Garden

My Oak

She stands tall and majestic giving of her, for many little creatures from squirrels to the birds that fly for safety and live upon her strong beautiful limbs.
She’s the Oak that lives all over the world her leaves spiral around her branch and her seed feeds so many of the woodland creatures.
In the summer she’s full of leaves and stand taller and more majestic than all the trees in the woods, her girth is wide and full bur in my view her most beautiful time is in the winter when all the leaves have fallen to the ground and she’s bare and most beautiful, her strength shines through.
You can see her limbs so large and strong, her girth is so round and you can tell just how old she really is, the larger the older, she usually is the oldest tree in the woods. her roots are deep and even when she’s dormant in the winter her roots dig deeper and deeper into the soil, when I moved into this house 14 years ago the first thing I noticed was the mighty Oak in My woods, I noticed the wind blowing but she withstood everything nature threw at her even at her most fragile state in the winter she bent and didn’t break.. Then she would stand just as tall as before.
One day I ventured on back through the woods to visit with her and I noticed ridged in her trunk I looked because she had tried to heal the wound so chipped away some of the repair she had made, and there it was…..
She fool and wrapped a chain around her it was in so tight it had grown into her, I wept for her, I went to the barn to retrieve some chain cutters,, I tried my best to realize her with no avail, it had grown way to deep into her I tried everything I could think of to free her of her chains I knew she was in pain, I tried a chisel I tried a crowbar, no avail, I did get to enjoy her for another 2 years but then on day I heard a tractor outside it was after terrible storm and she finally was chocked so badly she gave up and fell… he was dragging her away… my oak was gone, some days feel a lot like that oak so strong so tall and giving but knowing in the end I too will fall… she made me happy for awhile I hope I can bring joy to some as she gave to me … she was my hero.. My joy…
